Horace Schmidlapp, Carole's fourth and last husband, purchased this house
on the boundary between Brentwood and Pacific Palisades for her in March,
1947. It was here that Carole was found dead on July 5, 1948 of an overdose
of Seconal.

 In December, 1947, Screen Guide published an article entitled "Christmas at Carole's" with pictures of a "Christmas party" given around the 1465 swimming pool in July or August. Carole was in England from August 1947 to March 1948. (Carole is on the grass in the foreground.) |
